Scarce Good & Free good

A good refers to anything that is desired by at least one person. By scarcity, we do not mean that all goods are scarce and for those which are not scarce are termed as free goods.

A scarce good refers to a good of which quantity demanded is greater than quantity supplied at zero price. We want more than we have, more is  prefer to less. Anything that you are willing to and have to pay a cost for it or anything of which more is preferred to less is an economic good.

A free good refers to a god which is not scarce, i.e., a good of which quantity demanded is not greater than quantity supplied even at a price of zero. In short, a free good can also be defined as a good of which more is not preferred to less

A good can be both an economic good and a free good such as air. Fresh ar is an economic good in space but not in a countryside. Besides, a free of charge good need not be a free good even though both of them have no money price.

To say that a good has alternative uses does not imply that it is not a free good. A free good by defination is the one of which quantity demanded is not greater than quantity supplied at zero price. It does not mean that it has no alternative uses. In fact, it is hard to think of any good, free or economic goods alike, which has no alternative use.
